Sunday, July 31 update: Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach, Nordic House, The Volcano House

August 7, 2016 by Eric

This morning I headed to Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach in Reykjavik.  Let’s cut to the chase: It’s free, and I think your kids will love it. Strangely, there is a fee for the locker rooms in the winter, but everything is free in the summer.

Saturday, July 30 update: Reykjanes Geopark, Kleifarvatn Lake, Seltún, Gunnuhver, Bridge between Continents

August 5, 2016 by Eric

We spent the day today in Reykjanes Geopark.  Haven’t heard of it? Me neither, and I have no idea why. In my opinion, this area should be mentioned in the same breath as the Golden Circle. The Geopark takes up most of the Reykjanes peninsula, which is where the Keflavik airport is. At least I …

But in this case, we’re talking about a painstakingly built replica of a real viking boat originally …

What makes a destination family-friendly? And what makes a destination easy for first-time international travelers? A short list of factors we think are important shows Iceland as a clear winner. Our ideal starter destination would be: safe, easy to get to, English-speaking, and easy to navigate. It would also have a kid-friendly culture and lots …

Wednesday, July 27 Update Part 2: Sea Angling with Special Tours

July 31, 2016 by Eric

We have loved our whale watching trips out of both Húsavík and Reykjavik. But I recently discovered that Special Tours does something that I haven’t seen anywhere else: they meticulously document every single whale watching trip they take. How many whales did they see? How was the weather? It’s really quite impressive. Having had our fill …
