In July of 2020, we published a brand-new children’s picture book called Lundi the Lost Puffin.
I’m thrilled to announce that the book has won 2 awards! Lundi the Lost Puffin won a Silver Medal for best children’s picture eBook at the annual Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. Well, second best! There were over a thousand entries for the awards this year, and so it’s exciting that my first children’s book was able to win an award!
Lundi also won a prestigious silver medal at the Nautilus Book Awards. Nautilus promotes “Better Books for a Better World” and we’re thrilled that they recognized the children in Iceland who are rescuing baby puffins!

About Lundi the Lost Puffin
This is a picture book, intended for kids ages 4-8. But younger kids should enjoy it too! It’s based on the true story of the child heroes of Iceland who rescue lost baby pufflings! We stick as closely as we can to real events, but the book is narrated by a baby puffin! We think kids will love the simple story, and adults will learn a thing or two about puffins.
You can see the book on Amazon, and check out all of our amazing reviews. Here is some of the feedback we’ve received:
“Lundi is a book preschool children will want read over and over.”
“Geared for children, but this grandma enjoyed it too.”
“A perfect little book to read to small children or for bigger children(and adults!) to read to themselves.”
“The illustrations were breathtaking.”
More about Lundi the Lost Puffin
Lundi the Lost Puffin is an amazing book. It’s not amazing because of me. Sure, I wrote it, but somehow that seems like the least important part of this book. It’s amazing because of the illustrations, which I definitely did not draw. Just look at this sample page!
And it’s amazing because of the story. Here’s the key: This book is based on the true story of the child heroes of the Westman Islands in Iceland!
Every spring, puffin parents come back to the same cliff to raise a single baby puffling. And every fall, all of the parents pick one day to leave so that their babies can start taking care of themselves.
The pufflings have an instinct to fly toward the moon, which would lead them to the ocean and away from the cliff. But the lights of civilization confuse some of the pufflings, who then end up lost and lonely on land.
But then something amazing happens! Kids who live on Iceland’s Westman Islands look for those lost pufflings in town every September. They keep them overnight in little houses they have made for just this purpose, and then take them to the Sea Life Trust. The pufflings are checked out by the team there, and most of the pufflings are healthy enough to be released to the ocean.
In the fall of 2019, children on the Westman Islands rescued over 7,500 pufflings!
